CD Review: Kieron McDonald's Beware Of The Swamp Man

8:00 AMDollie DeVille

I was recently send some albums from Press-Tone Music International. All of the albums are great, but this was one of my favorites.

Beware of the Swamp Man is Kieron’s second solo album, following Island Girl (Rhythm Bomb Records). Kieron is better known as the front man from one of Australia’s hottest rockabilly bands, The Flatfoot Shakers. Kieron has a traditional rockabilly sound mixed with honky tonk, taking inspiration from Johnny Horton, early Elvis, and the Sun Records sound. His newest album consists of 15 original tracks and they are all killer. In fact, I had a hard time narrowing down which ones to talk about.

The title track, "Beware of the Swamp Man", is a sultry swamp tune great for strolling to. Another HOT song on the album is “Hot Summer Blues’. If you are in the mood to get Dixiefried,“Town Hall Party” is for you. I’m sensing a theme here, with another song on the album “Shawry’s Still”, being about moonshining. As much as I love a good southern rockabilly song, the best song on the album has to be “By Sunrise I’ll Be Gone”, in my opinion.

Holiday Shopping Guide Tip: This would make a great gift for the man in your life. Perfect for a stocking stuffer! It would also be a great gift for a girl friend due to Kieron's steamy accent. Get a copy for yourself and one for a loved one!
