Miles Away CD Giveaway!!!

5:50 PMDollie DeVille

On July 20th we trucked on down to Big's in Fullerton for Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague & His 18 Wheeler's CD release party for "Miles Away." This event has been long awaited so we were ready for a "truck driving good time"!

Mrs. Sandra Sprague had made a beautiful display for the occasion.

Sandra also made me a cigarette girl style tray so I could go around the bar and sell the CDs. What fun!

If that wasn't enough, Sandra also made cupcakes for everyone to enjoy! They had little picks with the new CD's photo on them! Too cute, and yummy too!

Merch team extraordinaire!

As good as we looked, everyone was really there for the main event:

Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague & His 18 Wheelers!
They played some of their old standards and a lot of their new songs off of "Miles Away."

If you are a regular reader you know all about this band because I talk about them more than any other band on my page. You may think I attend all of the shows because the members are good friends of mine (and my fiance is in the band) but it really is because it is a great band, period. This band is tight, and runs like a well oiled rig, thanks to the bands namesake Chris "Sugarballs" Sprague. Chris Sprague is a well known, world traveling musician, formally with The Sprague Brothers, and still currently with Deke Dickerson and the Eccophonics, and a fill in with Los Straitjackets, among other projects. A musician of his caliber could hold down the band on his own, but doesn't need to because he has put together a fantastic band to back him up. The band includes other big name musicians such as Dave Stuckey (drums) of The Dave and Deke Combo, The Rhythm Gang, and HiLo Playboys among others,  Dave Berzansky  (pedal steel) formally of the Hacienda Brothers who has played venues as big as the Grand Ole Opry, Bobby Cavener (bass) of the Amber Foxx band, and Zack Simpson (rhythm guitar) of Blue Collar Combo. Chris is a pioneer of the truck driving sound and his band has driven their way into the hearts of many fans with their unique take on truck driving music.

For an added bonus, guests were treated to duet with the lovely Amber Foxx.

Who, by the way, also pointed out at we were celebrating Bobby Cavener's birthday too.

Ms Amber Foxx brought some mustaches for the crowd to enjoy!

Big Sandy and I had fun with the mustache props.
He was also the DJ for the evening. Could this night get any better?

I was the "hostess with the most-est" for the evening, aka the MC, and made sure to tell everyone about the new CD.

So, let me tell YOU about the new CD now. "Miles Away" is the third CD for the band, and possibly the best one yet. It has 18 songs (yes, 18, how fitting!), 8 which are originals written by Chris, and some covers from Chris' musical heroes such as Dave Dudley, Del Reeves, Dick Curless, and many others. As a real treat, the great Red Simpson contributed the song "'Til Ugly Gets Pretty" for Chris to record for this album. There are also background vocals by none other than Amber Foxx, which in my opinion is the best in "Lot Lizard Lucy". The album was recorded, produced, and engineered by Chris himself, so you can really sense his artistic control on the entire album. The album layout was done by Joel Paterson of The Modern Sounds and the CD was released on Spinout Records. Last but not least, I was thanked by Chris on the album! This is the first time I have been thanked on a CD! Now I can check that off my bucket list!

You probably think that there is not really a market for truck driving music out there, but the biggest fans are fans of classic country, honky tonk, western swing and rockabilly. Music combines many styles, and bridges many gaps, so while you might think you you are fan of a certain style of music-you just might be if you give it a try! If you are generally a fan of classic county, honky tonk, rockabilly or western swing, I can pretty much guarantee you will like this CD. Chris and I wanted to share his music with some of you that may not give this music a "listen to" otherwise. So we have teamed up to bring you this Diesel Smokin' good giveaway!

Through Chris' generosity I have three albums up for grabs to all of you!!
