VLV Countdown: Saving

11:48 AMDollie DeVille

Once the holidays are over, and the new year has been rung in, its officially time to start my VLV Savings Plan. Saving for VLV is a struggle for me every year. I remember my first VLV was also my first trip to Vegas and I didn't really know what to expect. I only brought $300. I could never do that now. ha ha ha. My tastes have gotten much more expensive. I spend a lot more money at the vendors then I did back then (my first VLV I only bought a VLV tee and a bandana). I also spend a lot more at restaurants and gambling then I did back then. So, now I need about $1,000 minimum. I wish I could bring more though, cause I sure could spend it!

I just never seem to have enough money to pay all the bills, eat, put gas in my car, afford nights out, afford a little pre-viva shopping, and save money at the same time. So, every year I have to give up certain things in order to save for VLV.

Last year I gave up drinking. Yes, drinking! I didn't have even one drink between New Years Day and VLV, and not only did I save a ton, but I also lost a lot of weight! That is a little drastic, I admit, so I am not doing it again this year. What I am doing is limiting the amount of drinks I buy at the bar, the fewer the better.

Saddly, I will also have to limit the amount of shows I see. I know my friends will be upset, but man, $10 here, $15 there, plus food, drinks, and gas really starts to add up fast! I want to support the bands I see, but they are bands I see all the time, so I may just have to go to a few less shows between now and Viva if I am going to save some money. Luckily, Zack plays a lot of shows between now and Viva, so I will get into all of those free, and get my rockabilly fix.

Also, I am going to have to limit my Pre-Viva shopping. I know, I know! This is tough because I need some new things for VLV this year, like bakelite and Remix shoes to match certain outfits. So, I will just have to plan that strategically. Luckily, I already have all of the clothing I plan to bring to VLV, so I don't need to shop for that (just stay away from the vintage clothing section of Ebay).

Also, I plan to start eating less, and eating cheaper. Soups, PB&J, and pasta. No drinks, snacks or desserts!

So, there is my game plan. What is yours?

XOXO
Dollie

  1. I have never been to VLV but my friend begs me to go every year. I really wanted to be a vendor but of course i have a better chance in HELL of getting a spot! I think I might have to go and check it out though. Seems like everyone has a blast!

  2. Frank and I always get a fat tax refund (5k+) since we have kids, etc., and I'm sure you and Zack will get a good tax refund, too! I pay for Viva every year from my tax refund.

Frank and I don't drink, so that saves us probably $500. We can usually do all of Viva on $1500 or less, including the shopping!

  3. Kim, that is very true! We are crossing our fingers to get a good tax return this year. But, I know our luck, so I am saving like normall just in case. I would love to be able to take more $$$ with me if I have it. :)

We do a room bar to save money on drinks too, so that helps. I will have to do a post on "How to Make a Room Bar". ha ha ha

  4. I never have enough either! This year is going to be real tough too cuz I lost alot of weight for our wedding and most of my stuff doesn't fit anymore so I'll need to get new stuff before we go...which means less to spend while there. Guess I'll be trying to squeeze in overtime at work as much as I can! Good luck with saving!!

  5. Good luck with your saving Dollie! I would so love to go to VLV but it would be an extremely expensive weekend for us (we live in Australia).
I am getting married this year and suggested to my boy we should go over for our honeymoon! It looks like it would be a blast :)

  7. I used to do the same as Kim, and used my tax refund as my primary source of spending money. Whatever it came out to be, that was our spending money.
